THE TRIP
Located in the countryside near Siena northwest of Mount Amiata and at the edge of the Val d’Orcia Montalcino rises like an island in the heart of Tuscany. As you ascend from the surrounding valleys, you are greeted by truly enchanting vistas, where vineyards and woodlands exist in perfect harmony. A visit to Montalcino offers a wealth of food, wine, art, and cultural experiences. Yet, the town’s most striking feature is undoubtedly the precious gift yielded by its land a landscape that is both rugged and generous: its wine. Revered for centuries, the local winemaking tradition has remained faithful to the classic standards of Tuscan viticulture. This is the origin of Brunello a wine born of tenacious passion, nurtured with care through years of cellar aging before being presented to admirers in Italy and across the globe, who have come to cherish it. Each bottle represents both the culmination and the beginning of an enduring legend. Today, the town’s wine shops and restaurants invite you to discover the exceptional quality of Brunello di Montalcino, as well as traditional varieties like Rosso di Montalcino and Moscadello di Montalcino. These are often paired with the region’s exquisite local products such as olive oil and honey and the celebrated dishes of Tuscan cuisine.
As you stroll through the town, you can also admire architectural remnants of Montalcino’s glorious past, including the 14th-century fortress with its Medici-era bastions, as well as various medieval buildings and churches. The Civic and Diocesan Museum houses medieval and Renaissance religious art from churches and parishes in the Montalcino countryside. It also features artifacts from local archaeological excavations, spanning from the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras through the Etruscan and Roman periods including a display case dedicated to a discovery made on our own estate, near the Castello di Poggio alle Mura.
